Steven Johnson’s “Why Games are Good For You” Response
I feel like Steven Johnson’s essay is particularly well written in my opinion. I like how the author used more of a persuasive type of strategy to grab the author’s attention. For example, he persuades us by giving us information that we can relate to; Johnson gave us an example of GtaV a modern video game that people play now. I also liked how he brought up his counter argument and he also included a person named Dr. Spock who believed that video games were bad. I really enjoyed how Johnson had a lot of information for everything, but he didn’t bore me with it since he just didn’t hand us charts. Johnson actually shared his personal experiences; he didn’t keep it straightforward. I feel like being persuasive is one thing I can use in my Project 3 Paper. I feel like having information about my topic that is up to date is more persuasive to others than having a bunch of information that is from the 80’s. I just feel like having background knowledge and enough of information will help me get through my Project 3 with no worries

I found another article,” A social technology that reduces social involvement and psychological well-being?” by Robert Kraut. This article is about samples helping to inform us that Social medias sometime lead in a negative way. When somebody wastes too much time on the screen they achieve negative impacts in their lives. For example, they share to us a sample of people on the internet too much causing them to become less interactive towards close family and friends. Then, they also share to us that if someone spends too much time on the screen then they can sometimes increase depression or loneliness. What they are trying to say overall is if you spend most of your time facing the screen, then you gain negative impacts in your life that some people might not even see. Some people cant even see depression till its too late; I suggest people should spend more time interacting with one another in person rather than being stuck on the computer looking at bright light. I feel like this article can help me by sharing some samples that people actually did that can cause people to think that social medias can affect the way we communicate.

I found an article, “Tweet me, message me, like me: using social media to facilitate pedagogical change within an emerging community of practice.” By Victoria A. Goodyear, Ashley Casey, and David Kirk. This article was about how social media is changing the way our communication is becoming. However, social medias weren’t planned to change our communication, which is the problem. Some peoples way of talking to each other has became different after social medias. If it’s changing some peoples way of communicating then its probably them abusing the social media power. I feel like this is going to be a great source for my Project 3 since it is something I can relate with. I truly believe that some peoples way of communicating changes is because some abuse the power of social medias.

Reflection on a topic for Project 3

For my issue I will be talking social medias. I will be talking about social medias because it affects our whole generation and the one to come. Social medias have really ruined the way we communicate as people. For example, if we were to try to talk to someone we would rather message them on Facebook, text them, etc. It can rarely be done in person. Sometimes people are even to shy to talk to the teacher because they are so used to just typing and getting their conversation done that way. Social medias have also distracted a lot of people from doing the things they were supposed to do. For example, if I am trying to do my English homework and I scroll through some Vines I can easily get distracted, for about one hour by just watching funny videos. Then sooner or later I am rushing to get my homework done at the last minute. Social medias have really played a big part in this generation and I feel like it has really controlled some main parts in our lives. I feel like looking deeper into this artifact can really be helpful and easy to do. I feel like doing something I have experience in can help me persuade people that Social Medias are sometimes playing a big role in our lives and we don't even know it.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter has been one of the books I have known about since I was a little kid. I personally never read it but I have seen others read it. Harry Potter has a huge fan base of millions of children interested in the series. J.K Rowling is praised by her masterpiece known as Harry Potter. Elizabeth Teare however disagrees with the creation of these books. Children sometimes get to into the book that they cant differ fantasies from the real world. Children are sometimes to caught up with their fantasy life while reading the Harry Potter series than to deal with their real world. However, I disagree I feel as if children should have fantasies about the books they read because others don’t have a great imagination while growing up. Some children have their imagination taken away from them too young. I don’t feel as if the series brings negativity towards children because they have the freedom to imagine anything they want while they are kids. They shouldn’t have their imagination taken away from them so young.
